'Hi, we are Patrick and Dominik from Germany, two super sexy teens from Stuttgart in south-west Germany.
Hi Kamui, let's start with the first question! Could you introduce yourself to our readers and tell a bit about your life?
'Hi, we are Patrick and Dominik from Germany, two super sexy teens from Stuttgart in south-west Germany. We have been around for nearly five years now having had our first releases in 2003!'
How did you two end up in the music business?
'We both played instruments as kids and allways wanted to produce music ourselves, because both of us sucked hard at sports and making music was way more fun.In 2003 labels started signing our work and through the releases we had our first DJ requests in the UK and Australia in 2005/2006.'
Now we know how you did end up in music, which artists have inspired you the most?
'There are quite a lot of artists, that have inspired us over the years. In the end, people like Dj Scot Project and Kai Tracid were the ones that have significantly coined the Kamui sound in the very beginning. The stuff they played and produced around 2003 just blew us away and was the reason for us to start producing harder edged Trance music.'
In the past you made your appearance at Q-BASE, In Qontrol and also at Defqon. 1. How did you experience those parties? And which event made the biggest impression on you?
'Patrick: You can't really compare them to each other as they are all very different. The vibe at Q-BASE with its hangars, airstrip and the forest surroundings is different to the Defqon. 1 beach party or the indoor In Qontrol. So even though you get the same kind of music and crowd , each party has its own flavor, which is a good thing of course. So hmm .... I can't really decide!!'
Dominik: 'Don't ask me ... I loved them all! Every single one of them has been a great and new experience to us!!!'
This year you will also be playing at the Defqon. 1 Festival! What does this mean to you and what can the partypeople expect from you?
'Dr. Kamui will prescribe a specially brewed treatment for the partypeople. We’ll play a wide assortment of our favorite tracks and will try to take everyone on a wicked journey! Since we are playing a warm-up set we’ll have a certain kind of freedom and will be able to nicely build up our set!'
Now you have your first release on Tone Diary, can we expect a collaboration with Marcus Schössow?
'So far we haven’t planned anything, but you never know what the future will bring. Releasing a track on the ToneDiary label was a pretty interesting step for us, since the target audience of the label was quite different to the one that normally listens to our music.'
You did some stuff together with A*S*Y*S, how did you meet each other?
'Since we were part of the the typical Hardtrance gang some years ago, we just met at some point and figured out that we have quite a lot of stuff in common. Till now, he become a good friend and a great supporter.
We are still working closely together, he just did a remix for our new single "Thrill Kill" which is also featured on the Defqon. 1 website. It will be released on his label "Fe" in the mid of June!'
Is there any chance you also will be producing Hardstyle, like A*S*Y*S* did, in the (near) future?
'No, we are not planning on producing Hardstyle. We rather focus on further developing our own sound. Hardstyle has been an inspiration for us, but we do certainly not want to limit ourselves to any specific genre. Our productions have always been a melting pot for all kinds of electronic music and we’re planning on keeping this concept up.'
Are you, at the moment, busy with some new tracks? If yes, can you give us a hint?
'Sure, we are always busy producing new stuff . Lately we have specifically been focusing on creating bootlegs and edits for the summer festivals that we are playing at, but besides the upcoming 'Thrill Kill' a new single is in the works and will be released later this summer! So stay tuned!'
What is your all time favorite tune and what is your favorite track of the moment?
Patrick: 'My heart is wide open for all the good tracks out there but I'm bad at picking a very specific one. But I do think that 'The Verve - Bitter Sweet Symphony' comes pretty close to be my all-time favorite. It's timeless.'
Dominik: 'I don’t really have a all-time favorite track! I end up listening to the tunes I like way too often, so that after some weeks I’m just over them.'
Something different, what do you like to do when you are not DJ'ing? And do you have another job besides DJ'ing/producing or is it a fulltime business for you?
'Both of us are fulltime students, all remaining time we have besides university is basically spent on making music and DJ’ing. I (Dominik) am studying in the field of international business and Patrick is enrolled in a law course. With music as a hobby we have a certain freedom, we are not forced to release something we don’t like. On the long run we hope to make music a fulltime kind of thing though, that’s for sure!'
How would you describe your perfect day and night in Germany?
Patrick: 'Getting up in the morning, having a 'Brezel' for breakfast, enjoying the fact that global warming is treating us fine, 30 degrees in may is nothing to whine about, hang out in the studio and do some nice music, then race down the Autobahn without a speed limit to some cool nightclub (eg. Cocoon) and enjoy a nice beer brewed of wheat - taking the train back home of course haha.'
Dominik: 'Your story definitely lacks of Frankfurter sausages haha.'
What do you expect from the future. For yourself and in music?
'As mentioned before, music wise we hope to expand the whole thing and to keep up the passion for producing and DJ’ing, since we're enjoying to be part of the music scene.
See you all at Defqon. 1 Festival!!!'
